Now Recording: Art Photo

The Online Photographer reminded me that I should be sharing this work more often.

It didn't take much thought to realize what this work is about for me and have composed an Artist Statement:

I am exploring the way we as individuals record our experiences and why. It stems from the fact that when I photograph, I often "disconnect" from my surroundings. I am curious if the same feelings are invoked in others when they photograph or film? If this is true, does recording prevent us from creating authentic memories?

Teen Monster

This is a shout out to all those kids in small towns making it happen.

I grew up skating spots like this. Hanging out behind grocery stores and dirty loading docks. It makes me happy to see some kids are still making what they can of what they have around them.

It reminds me of when I was a kid and I would visit my cousin in Ashland Nebraska. It was only 30 miles away from bigger cities like Omaha and Lincoln but the kids were always at least 6 months "behind the times".

I'll give you an example:
In the early 90's neon shoe laces were still being rocked in Ashland when they were way out of style in the big city.

It makes you think, some of the most individual kids must be the ones who are actually out of touch with the rest of the world.

If there is one thing I have learned over the years it's that there is a huge difference between being unintelligent and naive.

Coolest Idea Ever.

Take a black and white negative of a blue sky, scan said frame. Create film grain look in photoshop by using it as a overlay at 50% opacity.

Very cool look.

BTW.. This is Benji Galloway.
